Privacy Policy

Tangent ("we", "our", "the app") is an active listening companion for podcasts. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

Data We Collect

• Voice Notes and Clips: When you record a note or clip, short audio context may be created on your device and sent to our Vercel backend for transcription by Deepgram. The resulting transcribed text is stored locally on your device and optionally synced to your cloud account. Temporary local audio may remain on your device when transcription fails so you can retry; raw audio is not stored in our cloud database.
• Podcast Data: Information about podcasts you follow and episodes you listen to (names, artwork URLs, feed URLs) is stored locally and optionally synced.
• Account Data: If you create an account, we store your email address and synced notes, clips, and session data on Supabase (our database provider).
• AI Processing: When you use AI features (transcription, research, classification, context summaries, and agent mixes), your audio, transcript excerpts, or note text is sent to our backend servers on Vercel and relevant AI providers for processing. We currently use Deepgram for transcription and TokenRouter for classification, research, and context summaries; Google Vertex AI may be used only as an explicit fallback. We do not retain raw audio after processing on our backend.
• Usage Analytics: We use PostHog to collect product-event metadata such as button taps, feature usage, install prompts, transcription success/failure, and coarse diagnostic events. We do not intentionally send raw audio or full note transcript text to PostHog.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• Raw audio recordings in our cloud database
• Location data
• Contacts
• Advertising identifiers
• Sale of your personal data

Third-Party Services

• Supabase: Cloud database for account sync. Supabase Privacy Policy

• TokenRouter and Google Vertex AI: AI classification, research, and context summaries when AI features are used. TokenRouter is the default LLM router; Google Vertex AI is an explicit fallback.

Data Storage & Security

Your notes, clips, and session data are stored locally on your device. If you enable cloud sync, data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and stored in Supabase's secure infrastructure. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app's Profile settings.

Children's Privacy

Tangent is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Your Rights

You can:

• Export all your data from the app (JSON/Markdown)
• Delete your account and all synced data
• Use the app in local-only mode without creating an account

Changes

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted here with an updated date.
